Thetford Adventure rideout! (+gpx file)

Out of boredom I gave a shout on one of the groups on facebook asking if anyone would like to join for a rideout in/around Thetford, and I really didn’t expect that so many people would be interested! Obviously, a lot more signed up then showed up, but that was expected (and hoped for!) but a simple rideout with few turned into a rideout with a bunch!

For the last few days we had very strong storms over here, and knowing that the rideout would be on Sunday, I made some preparations on Friday, went to check out trails on Saturday (so needed “me” time!), and Sunday was the time for the group!

Friday spent a good few hours checking and rechecking the route, making sure that all trails on the route are still legal to ride and while doing so, made even a second version – twice as long! So version 1 – just under 100miles, and version 2 just under 200 miles. Both includes all the famous trails around Thetford forest, short version has only 1 ford ⅔ of the way (that’s where we ended our trip on sunday as water was too deep, and we were too tired to keep going anyway), long version has 2 fords, one of them has to be crossed twice!

Saturday, the trip to scout the trails, turned into a little adventure of my own. Nearly overheated the engine with my latest “mod” on my already battered AJP PR7 (more about it here). And because I wasted so much time sorting it out, I managed to check just a bit more than half of the route that I planned for Sunday.

What I totally didn’t see coming on Sunday was someone showing up on totally unsuitable tires, and holding up so well for most of the time! That was something I was very impressed with even though it slowed us down quite a bit…

Anyway, we started at 9.30 in the morning, finished by the ford at 3pm. The group’s experience was all over the place, from complete novices to a bit more experienced, and even if we didn’t finish the short loop, it was still good fun!

GPX File for the Thetford forest Motorcycle Adventure Ridout!

So, now the gpx file – if anyone is interested, i’ll share it on the Downloads pages > “2 GPX Loops around Thetford“, Route starts at Walkers Snack bar near 5 Ways Roundabout and it ends in the same spot too! If anyone wants to use it – use it at your own risk!
