Hey, if you actually landed in here, it’s probably because you are stuck and can’t figure out how to remove something simple like a gear pedal off the shaft!
And you know what – you are not alone! These things happen, more often than you might think.
Just to be sure, I on not suggest whacking or bashing the pedal in anyway, as it will damage that tiny tiny bearing, possibly will ruin the seal, an then you will be in another world of pain! (fighting oil leaks…)
There are better ways!
One of them, try to spread the gap in your pedal with a screwdriver, that will solve 99% of the problems. Seriously if you will ram a flat head screw driver there and twist a bit to widen the gap, that most likely will get you out of trouble.
If gear pedal is stuck there pretty good, you might need to get some tool out. I understand that not all might have a bearing extractor laying around, but dam these things are cheap, last a lifetime, and sometimes that’s all is needed – a simple bearing extractor to get things done.
Mount it over the pedal with its arms wrapped around the pedal itself, shaft pointed at the middle of the gear shaft, apply a bit of pressure – and it will pop right off!
Just clean it well with a wire brush or something before reassembling and perhaps a tiny bit of anti-seize (copper grease or so) over the shaft – and next time it will come of much easier!
