Is Forcefield Body Armour any Good For Trail riding?

I had body armour from forcefield for a couple of years now, tried and tested in many conditions too, and here is what i have to say about it.

Quality of the Forcefield Body Armour.

Overall forcefield body armour is made fairly well, it’s no different from any other shirt if you ask me. Apart from two main things, that the shirt (or trousers for that reason) is stretchy that helps to keep padding close to all the right body parts, and it has pockets for armour plates. It’s soft, and feels really good on the body too. It doesn’t restrict as much as it has soft paddings / armour too.

Trail Side Repairs: Trying to straighten out my rear brake pedal.
Yes i’m wearing it while trying to straighten brake pedal on the side of the trail.

Is Forcefield body armour worth buying?

When i got it, i was very happy about, comfortable, non-restrictive, its protection works very well in absorbing all the bumps (softly said) too. And on top of that it has more armoured places than normal riding trousers or jackets have, but…

Is Forcefield body armour is trash?

The answer is yes and no.

Yes I’m wearing it while riding in Yorkshire Dales!

No, because it is good, it really is as it offers more protection than usual riding jacket! It’s perfect if rider wants extra chest protection while on a adventure, however, the downside of it is – it is made of something that is not abrasion resistant… And that means that forcefield body armour cannot be worn on its own as in the case of an “off” it will be ripped of the body in no time. What makes forcefield body armour a Trash in my opinion, that when weather gets hot, rider stuck wearing Forcefields body armour under normal abrasion resistant riding jacket, and unfortunately chest armour inside of body armour restricts air flow quite a bit. If chest armour removed from the Body armour when it gets too hot (and it gets hot very quickly riding trails, not so much on less demanding adventure riding), it makes Forcefield body armour no different than any other riding jacket, and only gives extra layer that no one really needs.

Overall Opinion about Forcefield Body Armour.

I love it and i hate it. Love it how it gives that false sense of security when all its protection is close to the body in all the right places, but i hate it then it gets hot and I can’t take my jacket off as it can be ripped off very easily.

Yes Im wearing it while fixing 2nd puncture while riding Tetty Trail, yes they are taking a piss too, but look what is packed on the back of the bike? (My Forcefield body armour front plate – The chest plate) And do you know why?

Would I get another one?

If I did only easy adventure riding, then yes definitely for as long as im based in UK (as temperatures are fairly low in here), but for the mixed adventure / trail riding at different temperatures (anywhere above 15 or 20 degrees C I would say) – there are better options in terms of breathability…
