How Needed Is Impact Gun While Working On Motorcycle?

Short answer – Very! Ha!

Long answer…

Let me put it this way, its one of those tools that you will be very happy to have, and very frustrated when you wished you had it (if that makes sense).

Yes, i know, probably a wrong socket for the impact gun, but so far i had no problems with it, so ill keep on using it!

First off probably not worth even thinking about super expensive branded one (not unless you are planning to start your own workshop and use it multiple times a day, but even in that case – compressed air Impact gun would be a much better option (simpler, easier to maintain), and say “no no” to battery powered because, it will suck to wait for it to charge fully before you can use it, as battery will be flat since the last use anyway and it will be as good as not having one at all when you will need it…

There are so many areas where impact gun comes in so handy! None of them people work on very often thought, only now and then (hence no point of battery powered), and there are so many tools out there for each of the tasks, but none of them as universal as Impact gun!

Think this way – Flywheel (rotor) nut on the crankshaft, Clutch basket nut, Balancing shafts nut (all inside of the engine), and most common source of frustration for DIY person like me – front sprocket nut! (I should write a sperate post about front sprocket removal, as without an impact gun – its an adventure on its own!)

On each occasion there are special tools to remove them, but impact guns comes in very handy! And thinking about all other uses for it, like working on the car – it it’s really one of those tools you would like to keep nearby you.

That being said – it’s much friendlier than a breaker bar with extended handle..! If you haven’t got one, and serious about working on your own machine, go and get it, you will thank me later!

Swing arm Pivot bolts, Front and Rear Axle bolts, and everything else what can be Torqued to specification – Please do So!

Just a quick advice – if you can get away with tightening nuts and bolts with a torque wrench – Please do so, especially where overtightening can be an issue (impact gun should be a last resort!)!
