Rebuilding The 20 Year Old Bike (Pt2 – Not Building The New Bike)

Getting a bike wasn’t the hard part… taking it apart wasn’t the hard part (at least not the most of it, and no I did not have any problems with swingarm pivot bolt like some! Mine came apart quite easy apart from the Linkage to frame bolt – seized solid and had to be cut off…anyway…) …probably the hardest part was ordering all the bits and bobs for it was the hardest bit as once you start, it’s hard to stop… hard even to draw a clear line what needs replacing…

To make it a bit easier to track of what parts need replacing and what bits can stay for now – made a simple excel sheet to track of it all. Works well too as a “progress bar”… yellow windows – things need attention, green – ok for now, blue – “wish I had more money to spend on it 🙂 “… red – need to order!

nearer the end – most of the things done and dusted (and green on the tracker)

While everything is in bits it is the best time to look into things at the different angle, inspect what needs inspecting, familiarize while bits are out and separately from everything else, also clean, refresh and get them ready to be refitted once frame is ready! (obviously cleaning parts is the least fun part of them all! but probably one of the most important!)

Wish I could refresh all of the parts, and then just throw everything in, unfortunately some parts are still good (or perhaps fortunately!) and will be reused even if some of them are not that aesthetically pleasing.

In the end of the day, what I’m trying to achieve here is not to build a new old bike, but rebuild old bike, that’s all!
