R&D FlexiJet, Flexible Air/Fuel Screw – Is It Worth It?

Not sure if I have mentioned it before, but damn! Adjusting fuel air ratio screws are a pain in the ass!

Yes I said it, and yes I mean it!

After I have rebuilt my drz, it started pretty much straight away, as I have used settings from the book (always a good place to start!)!

However, it refused to run properly for some reason or the other (probably because I did a horrible job rebuilding carbs more than anything, here is a tip there – make sure carb was rebuilt properly, and fully!).

So my freshly rebuilt DRZ ran, in a weird way but ran, and i had to figure out how to make it right, and so i kept adjusting the air / fuel mixture screw, and kept adjusting… and every time, just to make a half or quarter of the turn, everything had to come of the bike…

The bike is simple – lucky me, but still because i have a starter motor on my drz (engine from the s model i was told), i had to loosen up all the rubbers so i could turn the carbs body outwards to free access to the screw underneath, but not till the tank and some covers were off!  and so all that play around made it really time consuming… imagine if i didn’t have one one of those bent / flexible screwdrivers – would have been a nightmare to take carbs off completely each time!

In the end, i thought i’ll try that flexi screw, the air fuel screw instead, as i really had enough of tinkering with one thing, and you know what? It works like a dream!

I had to modify the bowl though, as the hole that was made for the old screw didn’t work, in fact, i had to dremel out the all lump out to make some room for the flexi screw to wrap around – and it worked!

Cut a small piece of aluminium to make a small bracket to hold the knob, fitted it on the side, and..

Well, I managed to adjust things where they should be in one go, and if I will ever have any problems with high altitudes or something like that-  I’ll be able to adjust it in a matter of seconds, not minutes!
