Time To Ride DRZ-400! First Impression And First Problems

OK, so after a while, I managed to get it running, had a short trip around to make sure that all good before setting off for a longer trip, and all seems to be fine!

well, not really… short trip did show that I had to spend more time on my wiring as those plugs I bought on eBay a while back – bit me back in the rear end once again, but about that maybe next time… (just don’t buy cheap plugs for your projects!)

Anyway, riding on a motorway, thinking to myself, what a lovely bike! Seriously – 400 cc punching just as well as my old xt660z used to! The only thing its lacking – the speed! Ha!

Originally, I bought standard size sprockets – 15tooth front and 44 toot rear, but clearly, if I wanted to do few more miles on a motorway – I’d have to up my game in that, as 60mph is as lame as riding scooter (no offence, scooters are cool in their own way)!

So I had that one thing to sort at home, and once I did it, the second ride it was a lot better (couple of teeth there couple of teeth here – made a big difference) however, second ride out showed another fault – oil loss!

Man, that’s just crazy, did 100 miles on the second run, and only then I noticed that oil level went below the dipstick! Panicked obviously seeing no oil, but managed to get some fairly quickly – the whole 400ml it took to pushed the level just above the top line! and that’s all in just over 100 miles on a motorway… (I’ll be honest, I did not check the oil level after my first ride that was also 100 miles, but I didn’t push it hard, apart from few times… )

anyway, another 100 miles in at slower speed and oil level dropped again but not as much, and after the last 100 miles push, I had to top it up by another 400ml of oil…

“It looks like this baby is running on oil rather than petrol!” – said to myself…

Back at home noticed a bit of oil residue on the swingarm, a bit on the bash plate, and a bit everywhere else, so I’m not a 100% sure what’s going on there with that oil yet, but I’ll have to have a deeper look into it…. But for now…

It reminded me of our 500-mile trip on XT, when oil was oozing out uncontrollably!
