How to make a Hydraulic clutch lighter on your motorcycle! (Part 3/3)

If your clutch lever is too heavy for whatever reason, there is something that can be done to make it lighter, like getting a grip strengthener! That would make levers lighter not only on your bike, but also on any other bike! And improved health and blood circulation in your hands would keep your hands warmer on colder riding days! Also saved cash by not spending on all that bling = more fuel = more riding! Win Win! On the other hand, if this is not an option – keep reading!

After long extensive research on how to make my hydraulic clutch a little bit lighter, i have found 3 possible solutions. One might not work for some bikes at all, one extremely expensive, and last one… well… let’s find out!

3 ways to make a hydraulic clutch lever lighter!

1. Bigger bore clutch slave cylinder.

This is an option, however finding a direct replacement for each bike is near impossible. Still worth a try, as manufacturers do like to use the same parts on different motorcycles over and over again, and some are slightly modified for different model bikes, so there is a chance too!

Cons: hard to find, on expensive side and increasing cylinders bore, means levers sensitivity will drop with it too.

Pros: Rider can use whatever levers they want, no other changes needed.

2. Levers with mechanical advantage.

Levers that are made with reduced distance between pivot point of the lever and the pin (load) that pushes master cylinder. Increased leverage means less force needed to do the same job, however it means that the same lever will have to travel a longer distance compared to stock. The only company that I found who makes something like that is Midwest Mountain Engineering company, and their “Midwest Shorty Levers” seems like a good choice.

Cons: on the expensive side, and it seems like not all levers have adjustments (might

Pros: matching front brake levers can be bought too.

3. Clake Clutch master cylinder.

The option that will hit your pocket like nothing else, however with their crazy engineering they managed to achieve something truly special! Overengineered and overcomplicated? Possibly! But if it truly delivers results – then why not! Comes in different setups, some even with rear brake controls, and anti stall features! According to the Clake website it not only reduces the weight of the lever but also the pull needed, so in theory it should operate like the standar lever in terms of pull, but thanks to their force balancing system – with much lesser force!

Cons: truly expensive option, stuck with different levers.

Pros: can be used as an art once retired!

Here they are, not a lot of options out there in terms of lever and system options, however there are a few more options that I have mentioned in my other post Other ways to make motorcycles clutch lighter! as those tricks can be used on both, cable and hydraulic clutches!
