Lighter Clutch Mod For Yamaha XT660Z Tenere!

Clutch lever too heavy on your XT660Z? No problem – here are 2 cheap solutions to solve that! Lets go straight to the point!

Method 1. This one will be easy for xt owners, as all that’s needed is one part that is used on Yamaha MT07, lucky it fits xt660z like the old one, it’s just longer by 1 cm than original! One centimeter that makes all the difference! And all what’s needed is this Part: YAMAHA MT07 PUSH LEVER ASSY P/N 1WS-16340-00 (and circlip pliers as it might be a bit tricky to take the original actuator arm without them)!

Method 2. Cheaper, quicker and can be used on a number of bikes too! And yes, probably guessed it now- to extend the original clutch actuator arm by 1cm! And it’s as easy as chopping it, welding it, grinding it, sanding it, priming it, painting it and putting it back where it came from!

If one of these steps can not be done, I highly suggest taking it to a specialist (a friend with all the tools) or ditch the idea altogether and go read another post about “5 ways how to make motorcycles cable clutch lighter!”, or Other ways to make motorcycles clutch lighter!.

Anyway, that’s by far the simplest way to achieve a lighter clutch feeling if cuttings and welding tools are present.

Have to mention that by extending the clutch actuator arm on the engine casing to get a lighter clutch lever on the handlebars, clutch lever sensitivity will be sacrificed. Means that to change gears, the rider will have to pull in the clutch a bit more than before, but at the same time that gives a bit more control when it comes to feathering the clutch! Whether it’s a good thing or not, I’ll let you to decide!
