How to Convert EU Projector Headlight to UK! (AJP PR7)

My ajp pr7 came with a projector headlight with a nice straight cut and diagonal cut on the RIGHT side – perfect in EU and everywhere else where everyone is driving/riding on the right side of the road, however  in the UK it would cause problems!

Nr 1 problem- MOT, its an fail if not changed as it would blind incoming traffic (left hand traffic), and because its projector light, it can not be tapped up to get rid of the diagonal cut – its just doesn’t work.

Being fair for all road users, i decided to see if anything can be done to rectify this problem, and put it right – permanently.

I’m not sure if this fix would work on any other projector light, but i refuse to think that manufacturers would make Left hand and Right hand headlights differently – not very cost effective in my opinion.

Windscreen off. 4 bolts and indicator connectors.  2 x 10mm bolts on the inside of the fairing (no need to take these off completely) 8mm bolts on the side of the screen. Indicators have 2 bullet type connectors for each – not my favorite type of connectors.. wires: black to black, coloured to coloured.

Headlight. If the screwdriver is small enough to fit behind the headlight and everything else, there is no need to take it off completely – 6 screws out of the housing and it will come apart. Undo the plugs for the lights, small light in the center – turn anti clockwise and it will come out with the bulb. If the screwdriver doesn’t fit – 2 x 5mm allen key bolts on the right side, and it will slide out. In my case spacers stayed and didn’t fall out.

Closer look at the inside of the headlight – and it is actually adjustable for the right side of the traffic, however it doesn’t quite fit in the housing by the looks, one of the loops was snapped to fit it in.. not a big deal.. In the worst case only the second loop will have to be snapped off to fit.. 3 torx t20 screws and reflector is out.

On the other side of it, there is a metal plate that forms the shape of the cut, it can be undone and flipped around, but everything else above it has to come off too. Another 6 torx screws and it’s all apart.

Flipped the metal plate that forms the cut, and it doesn’t quite fit in place, as one of the locating pins in the way – cut it off with pliers, to let it sit flush. 3 torx screws back in for the metal plate and another 3 torx screws to fit the projector glass back in the position.

Reflector back in the housing the same way as it was before, 3 torx screw back in place. All wiring connected and bulbs back in place.

Cover on, 6 philips screws back in place

Headlight back on its bracket – very tight fit. 2 x 5mm Allen bolts and 1 plug.

Screen back on, 2x 8mm bolts, 2 x 10mm bolts and indicator wiring.

And here we have it, a fully legal headlight that costs nothing to sort out and will not result in a failed MOT! Question is, why AJP didn’t bother changing it before they sent bikes out?…

Thank you, for not blinding oncoming traffic!

NOTE: Easiest, and probably the right way to do that would be just to twist the reflector instead of flipping the metal plate. Do what AJP did with the loop that is in a way and forget about it. In any case, the result will be the same!
