After playing around with Kev’s mod for a while, I realised that it’s just not going to do any good for my XT, and it had to go! But since my XT was not standard anymore, and I had no intentions of going backwards, so I thought I’ll try to improve it instead!
I can’t say that I was very happy paying that crazy money for Power Commander 5, but to be honest – once it was tuned by specialists to my XT660Z, it felt like a different bike! Huge difference!
Power wise not so much of the difference, but how it felt after was like day and night – so much smoother, all crazy popping and banging disappeared, throttle felt a lot more precise, all dead spots gone along with low rev struggles and hesitation!
What else was used on my XT
Just to be clear, this is what i had on my bike:
- Foam filter, no snorkel or any of the rings (reducers)
- O2 optimiser (piggy back style, that sits between the O2 sensor and ECU)
- AIS blocked off.
- Homemade exhaust. (You can read more about it here)
- Power Commander 5
Verdict!
Bonus point for PCV – chance to have 2 different maps switchable on the go with a switch! However it has a big minus point – most tuners can chip/tune xt660z ECU! It will cost a bit, but not as much as PCV + Tuning!
Shame I didn’t know that when I bought a PCV!
