If you bumped into this post first and haven’t read the first part, I suggest you go ahead and read it if you want to know why I did this mod in the first place, but if not and only interested to know how to do this mod – keep reading!
To mount a fuel hose directly on the OEM PR7’s fuel pump with no changes, is pretty much a waste of time, as the outlet is very short and has no grooves for the hose to grip on – fuel line would just slip off and all you would get – a nice petrol fountain!
So the first step was to make some groves on it, and once again I have used a dremel tool, and made only 1 recess all around it – should be more than enough to keep the hose secure.
My second step was to make it somehow a little bit longer, and luckily there is plenty of “meat” on the lower part of the outlet. I have removed most of it with a stanley knife to the point where that part was similar width as the slimmer part of the outlet (where original o’ring used to sit).
Finally fitted a jubilee clip over the hose, and the hose onto the outlet of the pump. Used jubilee clip just because I have run out of proper size fuel clamps – one of them would be much better for a permanent fitment.
After the test I realised that to make it work with original pumps filter, it has to have a case around it, as the case is what holds the filter in place, so I grabbed my mighty step drill once again and drilled a massive hole where original fuel pump’s o’ring used to sit – leaving nothing but a big hole for the hose to come out. I have left a bit on the edges, as it should help to keep the plastic housing from slipping off the pump.
From there, a couple of cable ties, and the filter should go back in like it was originally designed – I didn’t bother with it though as like I mentioned on the Part 1 – my pump is toasted. But if you plan on using it like that – you should place the filter back on!
So here it is, original AJP PR7 fuel pump – minus the o’ring!
